Mía’s Cocina was born from love, culture, and a deep desire to keep Puerto Rican traditions alive.
Founded by Maria Bído, a lifelong Lower East Side resident, Mía’s Cocina is more than a food business—it’s a cultural experience. Taught by her wela (grandmother) in her home kitchen, Maria learned that Puerto Rican cooking isn’t just about ingredients—it’s about storytelling, family, and connection.
What started as sharing meals with loved ones has grown into something much bigger. Through intimate cooking experiences, catering, and community events across New York City, Maria brings people together the same way she learned growing up—around food, laughter, and culture.
Her classes aren’t just about following recipes—they’re about understanding where the food comes from. Guests cook, learn, and connect, often leaving feeling like they’ve just joined a big Puerto Rican family.
Mía’s Cocina has proudly collaborated with local schools, nonprofits, and community organizations to teach traditional recipes, promote cultural awareness, and create meaningful experiences for people of all backgrounds.
At its core, Mía’s Cocina exists to preserve tradition, celebrate culture, and bring people together—one meal at a time.
