Since the age of 6, Maria Bido developed a passion for cooking traditional Puerto Rican dishes, inspired by her grandmother. By watching and assisting her Wela (Grandmother) in preparing family dinners, Maria received a unique hands-on culinary training. As a mother of four sons living in the Lower East Side, she continued to create these traditional Puerto Rican dishes for her family and friends. This dedication led her to become a local chef and open her own business, Mía’s Cocina, where she vends food at festivals and caters in the Lower East Side.
Maria has also partnered with Loisaida Inc and Essex Market to offer cooking classes through La Cocina de Loisaida. In these engaging classes, attendees prepare and enjoy a meal with Maria while she shares the rich history and culture behind the traditional Puerto Rican dishes being made.

Join our cooking classes at Mia's Cocina to learn how to make traditional Puerto Rican dishes, or visit us at a festival to purchase your favorites.
